Founded in 1999, ASIIN is a not-for-profit accreditation agency carried by an all-embracing alliance of academic and professional associations as well as higher education institutions in Germany. All activities of ASIIN are aimed at securing and further expanding high standards for the quality of higher education.
ASIIN is characterized by an intensive collaboration between the suppliers and recipients of higher education services and brings in experience in the development of criteria and procedural standards for quality assurance and accreditation based on learning outcomes as well as the assessment and determination of conformity of higher education programmes.
With regard to programme development, ASIIN focuses on the fields of engineering, informatics, mathematics and the natural sciences. With regard to organizational development of HEIs, ASIIN focuses on the introduction of quality management and continuous improvement processes. ASIIN has furthermore developed standards for the certification of (further) education and training offers which do not lead to a formal Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
In addition to its own seal, ASIIN has been authorized to award the seal of the German Accreditation Council for degree programmes since 2000 and for quality management systems since 2008.
ASIIN also operates internationally having accredited more than 200 degree programmes world-wide. In 2008, the authority overseeing universities of applied sciences in Switzerland included ASIIN in its list of agencies authorized to conduct on-site visits for the accreditation of degree programmes at universities of applied sciences in Switzerland.
Additionally, ASIIN holds full membership of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) since 2007, based on the fulfilment of the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG). ASIIN is also one of the first agencies to be listed in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) since its establishment in 2008 – a status that was reconfirmed in 2012.
ASIIN has mapped its procedures against the Guidelines of Good Practice of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) and thus has become a GGP Aligned Agency in November 2012.
In addition to its activities in Germany, ASIIN has from the beginning participated in national and European projects on the quality of higher education and has been involved in the development and coordination of European and international organizations as well as capacity building activities in the field of quality assurance in Asia, Latin America and other regions.
The role of ASIIN in the PERSEUS project will be to lead WP2, and in addition to participate actively in WP4 and WP6.
